A Day at The Zoo

We love our local zoo.  It's less than half an hour away in a not-that-big city, and it's awesome.  We bought an annual pass last year, and it has been wonderful.  (If you live close to me and have young kids - buy one!  It's totally worth every penny!)  Emma and I can go for the morning, eat a packed lunch, and be home for naptime.

We recently took our first trip of 2011 with two really good friends.  Even though every school within a 100 radius planned a field trip the day we went, we still had a good time.  Here are a few pics of our day.

Buddies

The giraffes are my favorite.  You can watch them and feed them lettuce from a raised platform.  We tried feeding them, but, despite Emma's best sales pitch, they weren't interested in our lettuce.  The boy giraffe was the closest, and he seemed much more interested in the girls than in the lettuce leaf Emma was frantically waving in his direction.  Maybe next time...

Look out, the ostrich bites!

He even looks ornery.

The sea lions are really fun.  Last year, Emma was scared of them and wouldn't get close to the glass.  This time she didn't want to leave!

The girls had fun "riding" the zoo train.  (There is a real zoo train, but this one is just a play structure.)

We had our picnic lunch next to the train and then headed to Target.  (I have to get my Target fix anytime I'm in the "big city". :)   Yay for a sunny morning spent with good friends!  Giraffes, we'll be back with more lettuce soon.
